Eros School, based in Athlone, Cape Town, is a school and hostel for children and teens with cerebral palsy, physical disabilities, special medical needs as well as learners with learning difficulties. They have around 200 learners who attend the school, and about 60 also live in the hostel.
In the past, TJ has helped across a number of areas Read More. We know the support and care the school provides is radical in helping them reach their potential, combat challenges, and of course, get through the school curriculum. It is abundantly clear that the staff at Eros take heart-felt care in equipping each learner with the individualised support they need.
Eros has facilities for physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, life coaching, and nurses. They of course, provide meals and snacks to all the hostel-learners, as well as the day-learners, and also provide many of the learners with school uniforms and laundry services.
Although Eros does tremendous work supporting the learners, they need quite a bit of help from the private sector as the funding they receive is not enough. Recently, Eros reached out to us, mentioning their tumble dryer is no longer in working condition, and they kindly asked us if we could donate one. We were happy to help! Two weeks ago, we purchased a large “Speed Queen” tumble dryer and had it delivered to Eros. We know this will provide some relief, especially in the Cape Town rainy season!
A few days after the tumble dryer was delivered, four of our TJ-ers visited the school (2 who had previously visited Eros, and 2 who had not). We were given a tour of the premises, and were introduced to some of the staff members, and learners. It was abundantly clear that Eros is more than a school and hostel.
The staff and learners were extremely appreciative, and our tour ended with some of the younger children singing us a thank you song.
